Coat Sink, a UK-based game developer, reached out for help creating the overall art style and game assets for a Facebook mini-game multiplayer experience, similar to Wario Ware. The game centers around players competing to pass various laboratory tests.

Initially, things were pretty blue-sky. I was tasked with creating some appealing abstract backgrounds so we could get a feel of the advantages and constraints of the platform. The client envisioned a competitive cooking show theme, with all mini-games being food-based. With the theme of lab testing, we wound up with another decision to make: vibe. After playing around with various time periods and styles, we decided on a retro 80s CRT hand-drawn style to enhance the frenetic and goofy gameplay.
